Solution: Bold vision and clear articulation of that vision transformed the former Kearney High School into the new First Baptist Church. In what was arguably one of the most challenging, ambitious and complex renovation projects ever executed in central Nebraska, the project scope called for the wholesale demolition of 125,000 square feet of the existing 232,000 square foot building, construction of a new 1,800 square foot lobby and entry addition, and renovation of the remaining 107,000 square feet. Highlights of the building transformation include renovating
the former varsity gymnasium into the church’s new sanctuary, completely removing an old locker room area and converting that space into a new Foyer, converting another locker room area into the church’s new kitchen and turning the school’s old art area into the church’s new nursery and preschool space. The building is now distinctly recognized as the new home of First Baptist Church.
